Join Jobs with Justice joined other membership organizations to mourn and protest the 5th Anniversary of the Iraqi war. The U.S. Government has been at war in Iraq since 2003. In these five years our government has spent over $400 billion on the Iraq war. Tax dollars that normally would have gone to healthcare, education and affordable housing instead are being diverted to pay for this war.
May Day Coast-Wide Anti-War Port Shutdown   [24 pictures]
As Longshore Workers up and down the West Coast shutdown their ports, JwJ and others marched along the waterfront protesting a wor that is costing over 720 million dollars a day and if continued, could rise into trillions of dollars. This is all money which could be spent on pressing domestic needs, including universal health care, job retraining, adequate housing and education.
May Day Immigrant Rights March and Rally   [9 pictures]
JwJ activists joined El Comite for the 9th Annual May Day Immigrant Rights March and Rally. Both our nation and our labor movement have been built and enriched by immigrants. For most of the country's history, being a "legal" immigrant simply meant being processed upon arrival. As the nature of the nation's economy changed, so too did rules affecting immigration. We rallied under the banner: "We are not undocumented, we are not illegal, we are workers!"

JwJ Activists joined Real Change as they held an all Night Camp Out for Change to "Stop the Sweeps" (Mayor's practice of demolishing homeless encampments and throwing out people's personal belongings without offering any alternative shelter).

Janitors in Seattle are in the midst of contract negotiations that affect thousands of families in King County. JwJ joined them to celebrate the struggle of janitors for living wages, affordable family healthcare, and respect on the job.
Camp Out Civil Disobedience to Stop the Sweeps   [27 pictures]
Mayor Nickels’ and the city of Seattle continue to criminalize the working homeless for surviving outside. Nickels’ lack of adequate funding of shelters, affordable housing, and initiating homeless encampment sweeps that punishes people for being homeless is creating some sci-fi sanitized city that eliminates all the undesirables. JwJ joined Real Change and others in a camp out and civil disobedience to protest this.
