UW Staff Win Strong Union Contract - Scrooge Goes Home
Almost 5,000 members of SEIU 925 at the University overcame management’s anti-worker campaign to win a strong union contract.
- Almost 550 new members organized through the union contract campaign.
- About 500 members in a woefully underpaid job will receive a 7 percent pay raise phased in over the next year.
- Increases were obtained for weekend premiums, on-call pay, and minimum-callback pay for other members.
- UW was forced to withdraw about 100 disciplinary letters given to those who participated in Governor-approved union workplace actions in 2001. Remember, UW President McCormick was voted 2001 Scrooge of the Year award for refusing to remove these letters. Now Scrooge McCormick is sending himself packing back home to Rutgers, New Jersey.
Congratulations to all JwJ activists who supported this campaign through rallies (on 11/15), Scrooge actions, and our Workers Rights Board hearing.
