Victory for Seahawks Stadium Workers!
Seattle stadium foodservice workers and their Union HERE Local 8 reached a historic contract settlement with Aramark Corporation, the concessionaire at Seahawks Football Stadium. The contracts represent major advances in employment standards for foodservice workers in sports facilities. Highlights include:
- As a first in Puget Sound, sports facility workers who work 1,040 hours annually will qualify for fully-paid family medical coverage, with dental and optical;
- Increases toward "Living Wages" of as much as $2.08 per hour immediately; At the end of the contract, vendors will be the highest paid in the region
- Paid lunch breaks for event facility workers who seldom had breaks in the past.
- As much as a 20% percent increase in the share of service charges (tips) that will go to workers.
- Strong immigrants rights protections and language that prevents a sub-minimum wage for tipped employees.
Jobs with Justice congratulates the foodservice workers and HERE 8 for culminating an 11 Month Campaign for Living Wage Jobs at the Stadium! The dedication of our JwJ Organizing Committee activists and many other organizations including the Washington Association of Churches shows that when the broader community gets involved, we win justice.
