Some highlights of the Washington State Jobs with Justice Workers' Rights Board include:
  • April 2, 2002, Seattle, Washington: Workers at the Central Area Motivation Program gained the right to union recognition after a show of support from over 80% of the employees. Juan Bocanegra, an Advisory member of the Jobs with Justice Workers' Rights Board, conducted the verification of suport. CAMP employees will now be represented by OPEIU Local 8.

  • Summer 1999, Seattle, Washington: The Seattle Workers' Rights Board joined with other Workers' Rights Boards around the country to lead the way in organizing an "Appeal for Justice" signed by 350 community and religious leaders as well as academics to support the workers organizing at Overnite Trucking.

  • June 1999, Seattle, Washington: In an unprecedented hearing, WRB members heard from three panels consisting of immigrant workers, community advocates, contingent workers and others about the challenges that they face in forming unions. The Board members presented a proposed code of conduct for employer behavior at the hearing. These standards will guide the Board's actions in determining whether workers' rights are being violated.

  • May 1999, Seattle, Washington: The Seattle Workers' Rights Board conducted a card check election and neutrality agreement with Hotel Employees Restaurant Employees (HERE) Local 8 at the new Mariner baseball stadium. Board memebers heard testimaony from mental health care workers, members of District 1199NW, Service Employees National Union (SEIU). The workers were on strike after ten months of bargaining for their first contract. The purpose of this hearing was to mobilize the community to support the workers, while appplying public and political pressure to West Seattle Psychiatric Clinic. Due in part to the pressure from the WRB, the CEO was replaced with someone willing to negatiate with the union. A tentative contract agreement was reached in January of 1999, and the new CEO publicly advocated thet the union and management come together to provide quality mental health services and to secure adequate funding for mental health care in our communities.

  • June, 1998, Seattle, Washington: The Seattle Workers' Rights Board delivered a letter to the CEO of JET Tool and Equipment on behalf of striking and premanently-replaced Teamsters Local 117 members.
